Location: Walt Disney World - Close to Disney's Animal Kingdom
I read that if you go to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge around dusk, you have a good opportunity to see the animals being very active on the grounds. Boy, were they! What a wonderful time it was for my family to visit this resort. As we entered the main lobby area we were in awe. The high ceilings, the beautiful African décor and the four story observation windows overlooking the savanna... WOW!
We stepped outside to look around and found ourselves in the middle of a marshmallow roast. I often find it's these small touches that make a Disney deluxe resort worth the price. The detail in the architecture balances well with the rugged beauty of the wilderness to the exterior of this African game lodge....
This resort is located about a mile from Disney's Animal Kingdom park. There are 972 richly appointed room that have queen beds (some king beds are available - just ask), and for larger families there are daybeds to accommodate a fifth person. All rooms have a balcony and as you can see form the pictures, many of them have savanna views. Have a little extra in the vacation budget? Try a concierge level room for added amenities to make your vacation a bit more luxurious!
There are three restaurants and a fast-service dining option, a couple of lounges and a pool bar too. The restaurant called Boma - Flavors of Africa is in the style of an African Marketplace. This buffet restaurant features international cuisine. Breakfast is about $25 for an adult and $13 for a child while dinner runs about $38 for an adult and $18 for a child. There is also Jiko - The Cooking Place which has a mix of African, Indian and Mediterranean fare. The cost for appetizers at dinner runs between $9-$17 and entrees run between $29-$36. On our visit, we went to The Mara (quick service) where there were many options for meals, snacks and a great selection of baked goods. I asked a cast member if there were any sugar free or no sugar added options and he quickly brought out the allergy chef. A simple yes or no would have been okay but I did appreciate that he wanted to make sure that if I had any dietary needs or allergies, they would be addressed. The chef brought out some delicious sugar free lemon cookies that I quickly gobbled up. YUM! It is amazing how Disney will do what is needed to make those with dietary restrictions feel like they can participate in the yummy delights too! Most all of the lovely pastries in the showcase ran $4 each.
One of the things I enjoyed about the Animal Kingdom Lodge was the gift shop. Yep, I am a shopper and this was one of the most unique gift shops I have been to at Walt Disney World. I shopped while my husband and son played checkers (see picture). I did not get a chance to take a look but next time I will make sure to look at the other facilities like the message and fitness area, kids club, playground and arcade. This place has it all! I plan on staying at this resort soon and I will be happy to update with my experiences.
